Corrections Policy for Nightlife Coverage

Nightlife Report desk

Every news desk makes mistakes. What matters is what happens next. Nightlife Report’s about page commits to correcting errors in public. This post spells out what that means: what counts as an error, how corrections are displayed, how quickly we act, and how readers can report a problem.

What counts as an error

An error is any factual statement that is wrong: a misspelled name, an incorrect date or time, a wrong venue address, a misattributed photo, or a claim that a source does not support. Differences of opinion about a review or a judgment call are not errors, though we are happy to hear them and may publish responses.

How corrections appear

Corrections are made on the original story, with a short note at the bottom stating what was changed and when. We do not silently edit published facts. If an error is serious, such as wrongly reporting a closure or misidentifying a person, the note appears at the top of the story where readers will see it first.

How fast we act

Time-sensitive errors, such as wrong event dates, times, or addresses, are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, because readers may act on them that night. Other corrections are handled promptly once verified. We would rather take an hour to confirm a correction than publish a second mistake.

How to report an error

Email anthony@nightlifereport.app with the story link, the statement you believe is wrong, and a source supporting the correction. You do not need to be the subject of the story to report an error. Readers catch things reporters miss.

Requests that are not corrections

Requests to remove accurate reporting because it is unflattering are not corrections. We will review them, and we will correct anything inaccurate, but we do not unpublish accurate, sourced reporting on request. Applying that standard consistently is part of being on the record.

Why this matters for nightlife

Nightlife is full of rumor, and rumor can damage venues, workers, and patrons. A desk that corrects itself in public earns the right to be believed when it reports something important.

Our own standard

We hold ourselves to the same standard we would want applied to any reporting about us or our sister desks: accurate, sourced, dated, and corrected openly.

Corrections we have logged

Corrections are kept in the story notes so that anyone reviewing our coverage can see what changed. Over time, that record becomes evidence of whether the desk takes accuracy seriously. A desk that never logs a correction is either perfect or hiding something, and no desk is perfect.

If you are the subject of a story

If a Nightlife Report story is about you, your venue, or your event and you believe something is wrong, write to us with specifics. We will review the claim against our sources and respond. If we were wrong, the correction will say so plainly, and it will be visible to every reader of the original story.
