Nightlife Report guides to LA and New York nights out: rooms, routes and what to know before you go.

  • Where LA’s Power Players Actually Go Out

Where LA’s Power Players Actually Go Out

Nightlife Report · Insider guide · By Anthony Perlas, “the Admiral” · October 21, 2026

Agents, studio heads, designers and founders don’t go out at the club. They go out at a handful of hotel bars, dining rooms and one grocery store. Here is when to go, what to wear, how to get a table and what it costs, from someone who has been out seven nights a week for two years.

I’ve shot LA nightlife seven nights a week for two years. Over that time I learned one thing above everything else: the people who run this town don’t go out the way Instagram goes out. They don’t need a bottle on a table. They need a booth they can be seen in or hidden in, a maître d’ who knows their name, and staff who won’t take photos.

This guide covers the seven rooms where that happens. For each one I give you the address, the best night, the dress code, how reservations work, what to order, what it costs (from published menus and reviews, with dates) and how to get home. Every fact links to its source. Where something is my own call, I say so.

How to read the prices: they come from the venue’s own menu or from a dated review. Menus change, so treat them as a guide and check before you go.

Safety first. Read this before any night out.

    • Go with friends, and leave with them. Agree before you go out: nobody leaves without telling the group, and nobody leaves alone with someone she met that night.
    • Own your transport. Drive yourself, or book your own rideshare from your own phone. Don’t depend on a stranger’s car, driver or “we’ll drop you.”
    • Never leave your drink. If you lose sight of it, order a new one. Feeling drunk after little or no alcohol, sudden dizziness, confusion or memory loss are warning signs. Get to a safe place and get help. (RAINN)
    • Promises that sound too good probably are. “I know the owner.” “I’ll take care of you.” “This could be big for your career.” Treat every claim as false until it’s proven, in writing, in daylight, by someone you can check out. A real opportunity will still be there tomorrow. (More help: RAINN)
    • Emergency: 911. RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline: 800-656-4673 (rainn.org).

Insider tip At night, turn down the terrace room and ask for the dark main dining room (The Infatuation). Maître d’ Dimitri Dimitrov runs the 80-seat room (official site). One OpenTable diner wrote: “Dimitri is the absolute consummate host!” (OpenTable review, April 2026)

The lobby bar and restaurant are open to the public with a reservation; walk-ins are discouraged (LA Times). Bar Marmont down the street is a separate venue. A regular said in 2024 that it was open for private parties only, and Time Out reported it closed in June 2025 (Time Out; r/AskLosAngeles).

What to order Spaghetti bolognese, linguine and clams, and the Nutty Chewy Sticky Gooey sundae (Time Out).

Insider tip Call 15 days out and you’re a day early. Time Out’s writer called back the next night and got an 8:45pm Wednesday table, with an invitation to come half an hour early for drinks (Time Out).

Getting home Valet is listed at $65 for the evening and a downhill lot at $25 for three hours (Tasting Table, Feb 2025), but a regular says valet is hard to get unless they know you (r/AskLosAngeles). Rideshare is simplest.

Insider tip Ask for the off-menu smoked salmon pizza by name. It isn’t printed (The Infatuation). Wolfgang Puck still works the room: an August 2026 OpenTable reviewer wrote that “Wolfgang came out and sat with many people, us included” (OpenTable).
Etiquette If the chef stops by, let him lead the conversation. Tell them about allergies when you book, not at the table (OpenTable).

What to order The McCarthy salad, a Polo Lounge signature (official site; menu). For cocktails, the hotel’s own advice is to let the bartenders choose (official site).

Insider tip Ask for director Pepe De Anda and say which seat you want: a power booth, a doorway view or an alcove (official site). Also coming: a 94-seat Supper Club with live music inside the hotel, set to open before the end of 2026 (Eater LA, Aug 2026). The Polo Lounge itself is not changing (LA Mag).

Insider tip You can buy a bottle from the shop’s 8,000-plus selections and drink it at your table for the retail price plus a corkage fee (Patch). It’s the one power room where the wine list is the whole store.
Etiquette Tables are communal marble (Patch). Let neighbors’ conversations stay theirs.
Getting home Two hours of free parking next door (OpenTable). If you’re drinking, leave the car and rideshare.

Best time A weekday at golden hour. Open Monday to Friday 11:30am to 10pm and Saturday and Sunday 2 to 10pm, with weekend brunch 11am to 2pm (official site). It closes at 10, so treat it as the first stop, not the last.

    7. Erewhon Beverly Hills (the daytime room)

Address 339 N Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, “just steps from Rodeo Drive” (LA Times, June 2025; Patch)
What it is A luxury organic grocer with a smoothie (“tonic”) bar, coffee and a patio. It opened here on August 31, 2022, a block from Gucci, Tom Ford and Prada (LA Mag, Sept 2022). The LA Times calls it “wellness as entertainment, grocery shopping as status symbol” (LA Times).
Best hours A weekday morning, near opening. The store opened with 7am to 9pm daily hours (Patch, 2022); check current hours on erewhon.com. The LA Times reports smoothie queues “20-people deep” (LA Times). Go early to beat that line.
Dress code None posted. This is the daytime uniform: gym-to-meeting.
Price range Smoothies $10 (custom) to $22. The Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie is $21 (erewhon.com tonic menu). One LA Times interviewee spent $65 on a sushi roll, two juices and a cookie (LA Times).
What to order The Strawberry Glaze. Note that Erewhon quietly dropped Hailey Bieber’s name from it in late 2025, so order it by its new name (LA Times, Nov 2025). Celebrity collaborations rotate; the October 2026 menu lists “Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson” at $21 (erewhon.com).
The crowd At opening: local employees, Rodeo Drive retail workers and salon regulars (LA Mag). Now also tourists and creators: the Infatuation nicknamed it “Official Erewhon Gift Shop” (The Infatuation, July 2023).
Celebrity sightings, honestly Erewhon has a celebrity-favorite reputation (Patch). But when Redditors were asked which Erewhon has the most sightings, they named Calabasas, the Grove and Venice, not Beverly Hills (r/Erewhon). Come for the coffee, the scene and the walk to Rodeo. Don’t come to hunt.
Etiquette Leave famous people alone. One Angeleno: “They tend to be in and out and not want attention so I don’t recommend calling out to them.” (r/AskLosAngeles, July 2025) Another: “Celebs don’t want to be chatted up in public. Let them be.” (r/AskLosAngeles) No filming strangers. Don’t hold a patio table for an hour at peak.
Insider tip Park in the public structure next door; the first two hours are free, and the elevator lets you out right at the smoothie line (The Infatuation).

Insider secrets: 12 things the regulars know

    1. A Tower Bar reservation gets you the dining room, not the bar. Diners say the bar room is first come, first served, with a shorter menu (r/FoodLosAngeles). Eater says you can often get a drink in the lobby bar without a booking (Eater LA).
    2. At Tower Bar after dark, turn down the terrace. Ask for the clubby main room (The Infatuation). An OpenTable diner who booked weeks ahead and landed on the terrace called it “secondary, more casual” and advised calling ahead (OpenTable).
    3. Tower Bar’s sundae toppings are extras. Load it up and a small sundae can reach $32 (Eater LA).
    4. Sunday dinner at Tower Bar is for hotel guests only (official hours). Plan Thursday instead.
    5. Chateau Marmont dinner opens two weeks out, by phone. Call exactly 14 days ahead (Time Out).
    6. At the Chateau, early and midweek wins. A regular: before 6pm “you shouldn’t have any issues”; Tuesday and Wednesday are quiet (r/AskLosAngeles).
    7. A late cancel at the Chateau costs $50 a head. That’s the Resy fee within two hours of the booking (Tasting Table).
    8. Spago’s best dishes aren’t on the menu. Ask for the spicy tuna cones, the smoked salmon pizza and the schnitzel (The Infatuation).
    9. At the Polo Lounge, ask for the seat, not just a table. The hotel says Pepe De Anda knows the power booths, the doorway-facing seats and the alcoves (official site).
    10. At Wally’s, the whole shop is the wine list. Pick any bottle from the shelves and drink it at your table for retail plus corkage (Patch).
    11. The Strawberry Glaze has a new name. Erewhon took Hailey Bieber’s name off it (LA Times). It’s $21 now (erewhon.com).
    12. The phone stays in your pocket in the power rooms. Tower Bar bans phone calls, computers and photos (official site), and Chateau regulars say photos get you removed (r/AskLosAngeles). Privacy is what these rooms sell. Respect it, and you’ll be welcomed back.

How to fit in, in one paragraph

Book ahead and be on time. Dress one notch above what you think you need. Learn the host’s name and use it. Order a drink, not a show. Keep the phone down, and photograph no one. Tip well, and be the same person to the valet as to the maître d’. Leave with the people you came with.

    Coming soon

The Supper Club at the Beverly Hills Hotel. A 94-seat live-music dining room from former Gucci Osteria chef Mattia Agazzi, with music by ALR Music, the team behind the programs at Annabel’s and The Arts Club. It is set to open before the end of 2026 (Eater LA; Variety). We’ll review it when it opens.

Hours, prices and policies change. Call the venue before you go. Prices are from the sources linked, on the dates shown.

  • The Safest (and Best) 21+ Nights Out in NYC and LA, Plus the Law That Has Your Back in One City but Not the Other

The Safest (and Best) 21+ Nights Out in NYC and LA, Plus the Law That Has Your Back in One City but Not the Other

Let’s be honest about the vibe this month. Safety stories have dominated the women’s corners of the internet. On r/TwoXChromosomes, the Cornell assault case and the wider conversation about consent have filled the top posts for weeks. On r/nyc, a story about a New York City college student who prosecutors say was drugged and raped was among the month’s most-shared posts. On r/LosAngeles, a “Ladies beware” post about a man harassing a woman at The Grove got traction.

So this isn’t a fear piece. It’s an insider’s guide to going out smart, starting with what the law actually requires of your bar.

Los Angeles: your bar has to have test kits

In California, bars and nightclubs holding a Type 48 license must make drug-testing devices for drink spiking available to customers. Venues can offer them free or at a reasonable price tied to wholesale cost, and they must post a notice saying so. The kits have to detect at least one common drink-spiking drug, such as GHB, ketamine or flunitrazepam. California’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has extended the requirement indefinitely.

Insider move: at an LA bar, look for the posted notice. If you don’t see it, ask the bartender where the test kits are. Asking is normal now. It’s the law.

    New York: not yet

New York doesn’t have a statewide requirement like California’s. A bill, A8613, would require covered venues to offer free test devices on request and post a notice. As of the legislature’s bill page, it’s sitting in committee. Until it moves, New Yorkers are on BYO: test strips in the clutch, and a venue that takes complaints seriously.

    The Nightlife Report safe-night checklist

This is advice, not statistics. It’s the playbook our desk actually uses:

    • Arrive with a plan to leave. Know your ride before your first drink.
    • Hold your own cup. Lids help. California’s rules for these bars cover drink-lid availability too.
    • Pick rooms with staff who look up. A good door and a good bartender are the best safety features in the city.
    • Share your location with one friend who’s awake.
    • Trust the “ick.” The r/AskWomen red-flag threads this month are basically a field manual. If a guy won’t take a polite no, that is the whole answer.

Where to go: the 21+ shortlist

These are rooms vetted by people who eat and drink for a living. We’re not rating security here. We’re pointing you to rooms with the right energy.

    Los Angeles

    • Thickman’s Tavern, Fairfax. The Infatuation’s newest Hit List addition: a loud, rec-room sports bar for walk-ins, with cornichon martinis, where much of the crowd isn’t even watching the game. Walk-in friendly, so you can bail on a plan without a reservation drama.
    • Bite 007 at Teddy’s, Hollywood Roosevelt. LAmag listed this as a female-directed night of queer DJs from LA’s underground scene. Watch for the next date.
    • Maree, Pico-Robertson. A candlelit bistro with wine from $12 a pour and service the Infatuation says punches above its price. It’s a first-date spot where you can hear yourself say no.
    • Alta Adams, West Adams. Freshly reopened, and the Infatuation’s pick for meeting a date “in the middle.”

    New York

    • Time Out Market, Manhattan and Brooklyn. A busy, public, social room. It hosted free Salsa Thursdays anniversary parties this month, with a beginner lesson in Manhattan. Ideal for a group night or a solo night.
    • Titán, Dumbo. Time Out’s top new restaurant this month, with a glowing mezcal bar and a leafy backyard.
    • El Camarón Peludo, West Village. A seafood wine bar from the Taqueria Ramirez team, added to Eater NY’s October Heatmap.
    • Café Charmant, West Village. A French brasserie from the Corner Store team, also new to the Heatmap. Book it for the parents, then the date.

    Halloween: the big safety test

Both cities throw their biggest street parties on Saturday, Oct. 31. New York’s Village Halloween Parade starts at 7 p.m. from Sixth Avenue and Canal Street, per Time Out. West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnaval takes over Santa Monica Boulevard the same night. Big crowds, masks and a lot of drinks: make a meetup point, charge your phone and keep the buddy system on.

    The bottom line

The best night out is the one you remember, for the right reasons. LA has a law on its side. New York has a bill in committee and a lot of great rooms. Pick your spot, plan your exit, hold your drink and have the best night of your month.

  • Bicoastal Weekend Showdown: What Insiders Are Actually Doing in New York vs. Los Angeles This Month

Bicoastal Weekend Showdown: What Insiders Are Actually Doing in New York vs. Los Angeles This Month

Two cities, one month and a calendar so packed it needs its own publicist. October is when New York puts on a sweater and Los Angeles pretends it’s not still 90 degrees. Time Out LA literally noted the 90s temps in its October update. Here’s our head-to-head, built from the people who eat and drink for a living, with the Nightlife Report filter applied: is it fun, is it 21+-friendly, and will you post it?

    Round 1: The free flex

New York: Open House New York Weekend unlocked about 300 sites across the city, most of them free, Oct. 16–18. Architecture nerds and first-daters alike, this is your annual backstage pass. Time Out Market also threw two free Salsa Thursdays anniversary parties (Brooklyn on the 15th, Manhattan on the 16th), with a free beginner lesson at the Manhattan party.

Los Angeles: LA Opera opened Carmen at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and streamed opening night for free at Santa Monica Pier, per LAmag. Opera on the sand is, frankly, a vibe. Next weekend, Time Out LA says Grand Ave Arts: All Access returns to Downtown on Oct. 25 with workshops, tours and live music.

Edge: New York, on volume. 300 doors is 300 doors.

Round 2: The dinner reservation you’ll brag about

New York: Eater NY’s October Heatmap added Café Charmant, a West Village French brasserie from the Corner Store team, and El Camarón Peludo, a Mexican seafood wine bar from the Taqueria Ramirez team, also in the West Village. It also added Faux in Tribeca, George McNally’s first restaurant. Time Out’s new-restaurant list leads with Titán in Dumbo: northern Mexican food, seasonal micheladas and a backyard with a projector.

Los Angeles: The Infatuation’s LA Hit List calls Alta Adams in West Adams freshly reopened and an even better date-night spot. They specifically suggest it for meeting “in the middle” with that situationship who lives across town. Josephine in Silver Lake is dark, plays Pearl Jam and serves crab-ragu tagliatelle. LAmag reports it has an au poivre ice cream on its October menu. Eater LA’s heatmap has Sous Sous, which Observer says took over a former 1930s church at Hotel Lucile in Silver Lake.

Edge: LA. A situationship-specific recommendation from a major dining guide wins on pettiness alone.

Round 3: The bar with a personality

New York: On r/AskNYC this month, someone asked for a bar in Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn “where I can drink alone and sad,” and another poster asked for bar etiquette explained like they’re 5. New Yorkers want a room that leaves them alone, nicely.

Los Angeles: Thickman’s Tavern on Fairfax is the Infatuation’s newest Hit List addition. It’s a sports bar where, they write, much of the crowd isn’t there for sports: New Wave music, cornichon-garnished martinis and gummy-worm dirt cups. Maree on Pico pours wine starting at $12, per the same guide.

Edge: LA, for the cornichon martini alone.

    Round 4: The music

Los Angeles: Charli XCX played the Kia Forum Oct. 17–18 and Young Miko hit Intuit Dome on the 17th. Bite 007, a female-directed night of queer DJs, took over Teddy’s at the Hollywood Roosevelt on the 16th, per LAmag. And Miley Cyrus played her first full concert in four years at the Hollywood Bowl, per Just Jared.

New York: The festival energy went to food this week, with the NYC Wine & Food Festival’s 50-plus events through Oct. 18.

    Edge: LA, decisively. Sorry, Manhattan.

Round 5: Halloween, the main event

New York: The Village Halloween Parade is Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. You line up at Sixth Avenue and Canal, and costumes are required to march, per Time Out.

Los Angeles: West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnaval also lands Saturday, Oct. 31, on Santa Monica Boulevard. We’re confirming this year’s hours and route with the city.

Edge: Tie. Book your flight accordingly, or just pick a coast and commit.

    Final score

LA takes it 3–1, with one tie. But New York wins the “free and enormous” category every year it bothers to show up. The real insider move is to pick one splurge dinner, one free event and one weird bar per weekend. That’s how you end up with a story instead of a receipt.

Keys on Sunday: Reading a West Hollywood Room with TheVoden Episode Notes

Sunday at Keys is a West Hollywood ritual worth documenting carefully: fashion on the floor, music choices, and how the room fills across the afternoon into night. Nightlife Report treats it as culture coverage — observer notes, not a guest-list flex.

    What we watch for

    • Arrival waves vs late density
    • Outfit language (what people actually wear vs what social posts imply)
    • How staff and hosts keep traffic moving

    Field tape

    Editorial rules we keep

No fabricated crowd counts. No intimate-services framing. No brand-poison mix-ups with family photography clients. LILLITH Photography stays on lillith.vip; Nightlife Report stays on culture.

A Human Guide to One LA Nightlife Week: Keys, Bar Lis, Poppy & Warwick from TheVoden Field Tapes

Nightlife Report covers Los Angeles rooms as culture: sound, clothes, pacing, and how a night actually feels. This guide stitches one week of corridors — West Hollywood to Hollywood — using field tapes from Anthony Perlas’ YouTube channel @thevoden.

Why watch the tapes before you go

Clips show room scale, dress code energy, and how early vs late changes the floor. We do not invent attendance numbers or celebrity quotes. If we did not see it, we do not claim it.

    Warwick — Thursday gravity

Warwick nights in the TheVoden archive reward watching for table flow and how hosts move a room. Useful if you are studying promoter pacing rather than “VIP myths.”

Bar Lis — rooftop Friday energy

Rooftop rooms photograph differently after dark. The Bar Lis tapes are useful for lighting, sightlines, and how groups actually occupy a terrace.

Keys & Poppy — WeHo / Hollywood corridor notes

Sunday Keys and Poppy Fridays show different tempos. Watch for door energy and dancefloor density rather than rumor. Cross-check anything operational with the venue directly before you plan press or photography.
