THE HOT SEAT · GOLDEN APPLE
Congratulations, you’ve been selected.
Four golden apples are in play in Los Angeles. You can’t buy one, and you can’t apply for one. Each was passed by someone who has already taken the Nightlife Report Hot Seat, and each holder now has seven days to answer or to pass it on.
Think of it the way the great houses do it. A Ferrari special series goes to selected clients. A steel Rolex goes to whoever the dealer chooses. The Hot Seat works the same way: it’s an allocation, not an application. The only people who can choose the next four are the people already in the seat.
Where the apples came from
Independent LA designer @eternalbeen took the seat first and didn’t hold back: “Talent shouldn’t need a famous name or industry connections to be seen.” Eternalbeen passed three apples, with one reason: “They was apart of LAFW.” Read Eternalbeen’s full Hot Seat.
LA creator @zackbernz followed with “I still miss the Supreme hypebeast days of 2016,” a fix for Fashion Week (“Bigger after parties”), and one apple of his own. Read Zack’s Hot Seat.
And the weekend’s runway crown is already on record: Model of the Year Ava Kortman and first runner-up Emily Sophie Christine.
The open bounties
The rules of the apple
- Selected, not applied. Only a holder can pass an apple, and each seat can pass up to four.
- Seven days. Answer the Hot Seat, or pass the apple to someone whose voice should be heard. On day eight it returns to the one who chose you.
- Your words, as written. Five short questions, about three minutes. We print your takes under your name.
- To the fairest. In the Greek myth, Eris tossed a golden apple marked “to the fairest” and started the most famous judgment in history. We don’t judge. We print who it lands on.
Why a golden apple
Virgil wrote that Rumor, Fama, “gathers strength as she goes”: a winged giant with an eye under every feather and a tongue for every eye. Medieval churches had their own version, Titivillus, a demon who wrote down every idle word spoken during Mass. Nightlife Report keeps a different kind of ledger: on the record, in your own words, with your name on it.
