By day he works in enterprise IT infrastructure. On the runway he’s all-black tailoring, precise grooming and what he calls “unapologetic intensity.” Rajesh Karnam (@raj.dtown, Doylestown, PA) thinks the industry’s favorite advice is wrong.

“Trying to be versatile by watering yourself down just makes you invisible.”

The audit

He stopped playing small the day he quit trying to blend in or guess what casting directors wanted. He leaned into his height, his presence and his signature look. Then he audited every photo in his portfolio, archived anything dated or commercial, and reached out to top-tier photographers and indie designers whose vision matched his. “I stopped chasing every random casting call and started curating the exact rooms I wanted to be in.”

The game he won’t play

Volume: chasing every casting, riding every short-lived trend, measuring success in exposure and vanity metrics. Instead he runs his modeling career “with the exact same strategic rigor and discipline I bring to enterprise architecture,” building long-term relationships with designers and creative directors and long-term brand equity over hype.

The bet

Walking runways while holding a demanding IT career. His justification: discipline and presentation “are two sides of the same coin.”

The save

Right before line-up, a wardrobe malfunction and a missing accessory nearly pulled his look from the show. The lead backstage stylist refused to cut it, fixing it in minutes with quick-garment solutions and speed-tailoring. He walked without missing a beat.

The cover frame

A sharp, modern all-black tailored look from the runway, which he says blends enterprise precision with high-fashion confidence.

Bigger and sooner

He’d have stepped onto the runway sooner. “Early on, I hesitated waiting for the ‘perfect’ time.” Over the next 90 days: higher-profile runways, new agency pitches, and his journey shared online, to show that age and non-traditional backgrounds belong in high fashion.
