Halloween is filed. The next useful question in Los Angeles is not which headliner sold out — it is which rooms still welcome a walk-up and a clear afternoon.
Saturday’s free paper trail: L.A. Zine Fest
LAist puts the thirteenth annual L.A. Zine Fest on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Angel City Derby Warehouse, 785 E. 15th Place downtown. Free, all-ages, more than 350 vendors — artists, small presses, independent booksellers, community organizers. If the ’90s never left your tote bag, this is the honest reunion.

Corita Day and a Boyle Heights procession
Discover Los Angeles flags Corita Day Festival at SCI-Arc on Saturday, Nov. 7 — an afternoon from Corita Art Center with art-making stations, live music, KCRW DJs, and Bob Baker Marionettes, celebrating pop artist Corita Kent. The same Saturday, Self Help Graphics & Arts hosts its 53rd Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration: Danza Azteca Chicomecoatl leads a procession from Mariachi Plaza at 2 p.m. to the Boyle Heights building, then an outdoor block party with Los Lobos and La Santa Cecilia, community altars, vendors, and art activities.

Venice light, Sunday night
LAist also lists Luminex: The Infinite Between on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m., free, at 2100 Ocean Front Walk and 200 N. Venice Blvd. The projection collective that lit downtown moves to the beach as the days shorten — a low-friction plan if the Bowl and Palladium are already spoken for.
Still on the wider board
Discover L.A.’s Nov. 6–8 brief also notes PROOF Film Festival (Egyptian Theatre and Los Feliz 3, Nov. 5–8), incoming LA Phil music director Daniel Harding at Walt Disney Concert Hall (Nov. 6–8), and the big ticket rooms — Tinashe at the Palladium, Moby and Underworld at Brookside, Jimmy Eat World at the Bowl on Saturday, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean celebrating thirty years of The Score on Sunday. Those shows deserve their own tickets. This map is for the afternoons and free nights that keep a week from becoming only a queue.

- Saturday late afternoon: Self Help Graphics procession if you want music and community altars in Boyle Heights.
- Sunday at dusk: Luminex in Venice — free, timed to early dark.
- Hold one paid seat (Phil, Bowl, or Palladium) only after the free blocks are on the calendar.
