New York stopped whispering this fall. Walk any avenue in October and the outerwear does the talking: denim trenches, funnel necks, fringe and animal print.

Writer Late Bloomer reports “maximalist chic” outerwear all over the city: funnel-neck jackets with cocoon collars, animal-print coats, and denim trenches with a 70s feel. The military jackets forecasters predicted were not spotted at all.

2. The sweater vest is back

Cropped, oversized vests in chunky knits and crochet, layered over long-sleeve shirts and dresses.

Uptown edit

On the Upper East Side, Who What Wear spotted sheer skirts under long tailored coats and suede jackets, from bombers to cape styles.
