Milan Fashion Week (September 2026) proved again that the show outside the show sets the season.
Milan Fashion Week (September 2026) proved again that the show outside the show sets the season.
1. The cummerbund
British Vogue’s Augustine Hammond calls it “the most unlikely contender”: the men’s black-tie sash, now cinched over blazers and knits. Who What Wear’s Natalie Munro saw it worn “in place of a belt with jumpers and trousers on repeat.” Vogue notes it appeared in collections from Polo Ralph Lauren, Kallmeyer, Talia Byre, Ahluwalia and Mithridate.
2. Gauzy pencil skirts
Pencil skirts were everywhere; the standout version was wrapped in tulle or fully sheer.
3. Pink and blue button-downs
Pink replaced the crisp white shirt for many of the best-dressed (Who What Wear); Vogue saw blue button-downs tucked into statement skirts.

4. Polo shirts
The casual top of choice.
5. Prada devotees
Vogue called Prada arguably the show of the season, with fans in statement skirts, oversized knitted scarves and grey wool skirts. High-rise straight jeans, red shoes and the Fendi Baguette filled out the streets.
6. Small bags, big scarves
Backdoor Toronto spotted mini bags before the Prada show and long, color-blocked chunky-knit scarves draped over black, plus a second shirt tied at the waist as a skirt.
