Paris Meets Tokyo: Margiela x Gentle Monster Pop-Ups and System Paris Heads to Japan

The Paris–Tokyo axis is the strongest line in fashion right now, and this week it got two new connections.

What is the Margiela x Gentle Monster drop?

It’s the fourth collaboration between Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster: 68 eyewear pieces built around the idea of “deconstruction.” That means oversized shades, seemingly crushed frames and upswept shapes wrapped in leather, finished with Margiela’s four white stitches. A short film by Alex Prager comes with the launch, along with pop-up spaces in eight cities, including Paris, Seoul and Tokyo.

What is System Paris doing in Japan?

Korea’s Handsome signed an exclusive Japan distribution deal for System Paris, the label that has shown at Paris Fashion Week 16 seasons in a row since 2019. The first store opens at Hankyu Men’s Tokyo in February 2027, with a goal of 10 stores across Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya by 2030.

Why should nightlife care?

Eyewear is the after-dark accessory. The frames you see in Tokyo’s late-night bars this winter will show up on LA rooftops by spring.
