Part of today’s What You Missed: Thursday, Nov 5.

The short version
Tapestry raised its fiscal 2027 revenue and earnings forecasts on Thursday after Coach bags kept selling to younger shoppers in North America, China and Europe. Shares jumped nearly 12 percent in early trading, Business of Fashion reports via Reuters. While many luxury houses are trimming guidance, Coach’s parent is telling investors the holiday window still has room to grow.
What happened
- The raise. Tapestry now expects fiscal 2027 revenue of 8.5 to 8.6 billion dollars, up from 8.4 to 8.5 billion, and earnings per share of 8.25 to 8.35 dollars, up from 7.80 to 7.90, according to Business of Fashion.
- The quarter. First-quarter sales rose 11.1 percent to 1.89 billion dollars, beating estimates. Adjusted profit was 1.82 dollars per share versus estimates of 1.57.
- Coach vs Kate Spade. Coach revenue jumped 16 percent on a reported basis. Kate Spade fell 10 percent. China revenue rose 43 percent.
- What the CEO said. “Our product and the value proposition is compelling at our price points, so we’re not going to be any more promotional,” Coach CEO Todd Kahn told Reuters, citing a sweet spot between 200 and 500 dollars.
- Buybacks. Tapestry raised its planned share buybacks to 1.7 billion dollars for the fiscal year, up 350 million from prior guidance.
- The playbook. BoF notes Coach has targeted Gen Z with bag charms and campaigns featuring Elle Fanning and K-pop star So-yeon.
Why people care
Accessible luxury is the lane that has held up while some ultra-luxury houses slow down. Coach sits above mall fashion and well below Hermès, which makes it a useful read on holiday gifting: shoppers who still want a branded bag but will not stretch for a five-figure piece. When Tapestry raises guidance in early November, it is betting that those shoppers show up through December.
What it means for you
- Expect fewer deep discounts. Kahn said Coach will not get more promotional for the holidays. If a specific bag or charm is on your list, buy it when you see it rather than waiting for a clearance event.
- The 200 to 500 dollar window. That is the price band Coach is defending. For LA shoppers hitting The Grove, Beverly Center or South Coast Plaza, it is the practical gift range for friends, sisters and partners who already have a Coach habit.
- Watch Kate Spade separately. A 10 percent drop means the sister brand is not riding the same wave. Do not assume a Kate Spade sale equals Coach heat.
- For stylists and creators. Charms and celebrity casting are the growth levers. If you shoot product or style for brands, that is the brief to pitch: playful hardware, young faces, less discounting.
Our take
Opinion. Coach’s rebound has been one of the cleaner accessible-luxury stories of the last few years, and Thursday’s raise says the company still believes in it. The China jump and Gen Z charm strategy are real. The risk is Kate Spade dragging the group and a holiday that turns more promotional than Kahn wants. For now, the Coach bag under a Christmas tree still looks like the smart mid-tier bet.
