New York’s most famous downtown dining room is now cooking on Sunset Boulevard. After a renovation, Bar Marmont at Chateau Marmont is open again, and it is serving the French-Vietnamese menu of Indochine, the New York restaurant that opened in 1984, WWD reported on Oct. 28 (WWD).
How do you get into Bar Marmont now?
Discreetly. Per WWD, access is by invitation or by a reservation arranged by text, and the bar is open Thursday through Saturday with DJ nights. The partnership has not been formally announced.
A little history
Chateau Marmont opened in 1929 as an apartment building before becoming a hotel. Owner André Balazs opened Bar Marmont in a separate space on the property in 1995 (WWD). Indochine is owned by Jean-Marc Houmard, Huy Chi Le and Michael Callahan.
A changing of the guard
Page Six reported in January that general manager Casey McShane left after nearly two decades for a vice president role at Dior’s Rodeo Drive flagship and that doorwoman Anya Varda left after more than 25 years, with Amanda Grandinetti stepping back in as GM. The hotel is also working with Rizzoli on a photo book for its 100th anniversary (Page Six).
The Nightlife Report take
Two institutions known for their guest lists have joined forces, and they have done it quietly. In Los Angeles, the hardest table to get is still the one nobody announces.
