“Where are women making friends in their late twenties?” is a question that keeps coming back on LA forums, including r/AskLosAngeles. The honest answer is that friendship in a spread-out city needs structure: a recurring event, a small group, a reason to show up. Here are four options we checked on their own sites on Nov 4, 2026.
1. Not Staying In
Not Staying In describes itself as “Los Angeles’ social club for women.” Every event is run by women, from security to the bar to the DJ booth. The site lists the club as women-focused and queer-inclusive, with a group chat, meet-ups, and events. The All Access membership is listed at $60 every two months, and the group chat uses an application. Events are 21+. Check the site for the current schedule and price.
Best for: a night out with a safe, women-run room.
2. Bestie Brunch LA
Bestie Brunch LA was created for women who have a hard time finding friends. The organizers encourage you to come alone, in the hope that you leave with genuine connections. The site notes it was featured in the LA Times and points to Instagram for details on the next event.
Best for: introverts who want a daytime, low-pressure start.
3. Los Angeles Girlfriends Social Club (Meetup)
This Meetup group describes itself as bringing women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s together for happy hours, brunches, nights out, shows, local events, and weekend adventures. As of Nov 4, 2026, it lists about 1,970 members and a 3.9 rating from 12 ratings. Recent event listings included bowling nights and a comedy show.

Best for: variety, and a wider age range.
4. LA Girls Who Walk
The LA Times covered this group in January 2023 in a story called “How to make friends in L.A.? Walk” (Jan 10, 2023). The group, inspired by City Girls Who Walk in New York, hosts walks for women to get steps in and make friends. The article describes a three-mile stroll around the Lake Hollywood Reservoir trail. We could not load the group’s own website on Nov 4, 2026, so check its social pages for current dates before you plan.
Best for: daytime, free, and conversation-friendly.

A realistic plan
Friendship rarely happens at one event. Pick one group and go three times. Introduce yourself to two new people each time. Exchange numbers with one. By month two you have a reason to text.
Safety basics
- Tell a friend where you are going.
- Ride share or drive with a plan, especially after drinks.
- Meet in public places.
- Trust your gut and leave if something feels off.
Skip the pressure
You do not need to be the loudest person in the room. Asking one real question is a skill many groups quietly appreciate.
If you want a culture-first plan, our free LA day pairs well with a friend you meet.
What to say when you walk in
Prepare a one-line introduction: “Hi, I’m [name], this is my first time here. What brought you?” The question turns introductions into a conversation, and most members are happy to answer. If you feel nervous, arrive early, when the room is quieter and easier to enter.
Warning signs of a group that isn’t right
- Pressure to buy or upsell right away
- No clear organizer or contact
- Vague pricing
- You leave feeling worse about yourself
If a group feels off, move on. There are plenty of others.
