From Their Stories: What the Bureau Runway Said Online

The runway ended Saturday night. The press release went out after 2 AM, one story frame at a time.

How to read this piece. Every quote below is public story or caption text, copied as it appeared and credited to the account that posted it. A handle on a story shows who posted the frame. It doesn’t confirm who walked, for which house, or on which night. Where we can’t pin something down, we say unconfirmed. The Venus Games placings are Nightlife Report editorial picks, not official Bureau awards.

Darlings, the lights went down on the Bureau’s LA Fashion Week Finale at The Lot Studios on Saturday night. Then the second show started, on phones. Between Saturday morning and the small hours of Sunday, one swim label’s story reel turned into a running diary of the weekend, stitched together from frames reshared by people who were in the room: wings, robes, a Bureau credential card, a thank-you note, and one frame that may not be from this weekend at all.

I shot the runway from the pit. This is the other half of the record: what the runway said about itself online.

The reel: fourteen frames, one label

The account is @krissykingthelabel, the swim label that walked the Bureau’s Saturday 8:30 PM Finale as Krissy King Swim. We read its live story reel frame by frame early Sunday, between about 2:30 and 2:50 AM PT: fourteen frames, oldest to newest. Instagram stamps each frame with its age, so the times below are approximate.

The frames that spoke for themselves:

  • Saturday, about 8:30 AM PT. A frame reshared from @allycullipher: “Today is OUR LAFW Show Day!” and, under it, “The girls’ Super Bowl is in 2 days.” Hold that thought. We’ll come back to it.
  • Saturday, about 6:30 PM PT. From @avarosegiannini: a card held up in a dim venue that reads “THE BUREAU FASHION WEEK – MODEL,” tagged to @thebureaufashionweek and @krissykingthelabel.
  • Saturday, about 8:30 PM PT, right around the Finale’s start time. No reshare handle, a Charli xcx track (“Speed Drive,” from the Barbie album), feather wings seen from behind, and the line “The Angles Have Landed at LAFW.” Yes, “Angles.” The typo is on the frame, and we’re leaving it there. A wing emoji sits between the words.
  • Sunday, about 12:30 AM PT. A runway frame watermarked by @satginstudio, tagged to the Bureau and the label, with a “Los Angeles, California” location sticker and the KRISSY KING backdrop in shot.
  • Sunday, roughly 2:15 to 2:45 AM PT, the after-hours rush. From @marchandlynae: “Thanks LAFW, I had a blast.” From @kyla.doddsss: “Tonight’s show,” with both tags. And the reel’s last word, from @avarosegiannini: “@krissykingthelabel does LAFW the best.”

Also in the reel, and not evidence of anything in particular: a frame from @maiawall03 that reads only “bro,” a mirror selfie, a backstage make-up moment, a crowd facing the KRISSY KING screen, and a reshare from @swimweekmia captioned “Throwback to Miami.” That last one is plainly not this weekend, and it tells you how a label’s story really works. It’s a scrapbook, not a ledger.

One timing note we can’t settle from Instagram alone. “Tonight’s show” and “Thanks LAFW” landed on the label’s story after 2 AM Sunday. That fits the Saturday Finale, but they may be reshares of clips posted earlier. The time each original went up is unconfirmed.

The frame that doesn’t add up

Back to frame one. “Today is OUR LAFW Show Day!” sits over “The girls’ Super Bowl is in 2 days.” Its “Watch full reel” link goes to a reel @allycullipher posted on Fri Oct 16, whose caption tags @victoriassecret and asks “Who’s watching Sunday?”

Victoria’s Secret says its Fashion Show streams live from Los Angeles today, Sunday Oct 18, at 4:30 PM PT. Count two days back from Sunday and you land on Friday. Krissy King Swim walked Saturday’s Finale. So the “show day” in that frame was a different day, or a different show, or the frame was made on Friday and reposted on Saturday. We don’t know which. Unconfirmed, and possibly a recycled frame. We’re not reading it as proof of who walked when.

The Angel crossover

Here’s the plot line nobody announced and everybody posted. On Wed Oct 14, @allycullipher posted a reel in collaboration with the label, captioned “Every girl dreams of her @victoriassecret angel moment… I just got to have my own version @krissykingthelabel” and “It’s almost officially the girls’ Super Bowl!”, with #VSFashionShow. Early Sunday, a frame credited to the same handle on the label’s story read “@krissykingthelabel meets @victoriassecret”, over a black-and-white group shot in feather wings. And Krissy King’s link-in-bio carries an “Angel Energy Girls Application.”

Let’s be precise. That’s framing, by the label and by the people posting about it. Nothing we found says Victoria’s Secret has any tie to Krissy King, and none was announced. What is on the record: a swim label put feather wings on the Bureau’s closing runway in Los Angeles the night before the Victoria’s Secret show in Los Angeles, and the people posting about it said “Angel” out loud.

The rest of the room

The label wasn’t the only account turning stories into a credits roll. When we read @thebureaufashionweek‘s own story reposts on Saturday afternoon, much of the talking came from the people behind the cameras and the brushes:

  • @d.bryanbryxph: “Day 2 of LAFW with @thebureaufashionweek.”
  • @berhanewediriiephotography: “LAFW at @thebureaufashionweek.”
  • @satginstudio: “shooting from the media pit all weekend.” Hello, neighbour. See you on the riser.
  • @journeykayofficial: “Ready to hit the LAFW runway!!!” Which show and which house: unconfirmed.
  • @lucyluxxury: “Styled by @lucyluxxury,” on an “LA day” frame.
  • @kingschocolateco: “Busy in LA! @cru.king.” Their role at the shows: unconfirmed.

The producer’s own feed, meanwhile, kept it minimal. Its LAFW recap reel and its Day 2 carousel carried hashtags, not handles, when we checked on Saturday. The credits lived in the stories.

Disclosure, because we’d want it from anyone else: one of the Bureau’s Saturday story reshares was Nightlife Report’s own Sewreffic collab post, crediting Emily Sophie Christine and the Sewreffic design.

Where the podium sits

Our final Venus Games board, as it stands after the comparison round:

  1. Ava Kortman, for Krown Kink, the house of Casey Lee Parker. Nightlife Report Model of the Year.
  2. Emily Sophie Christine, for Sewreffic.
  3. Kyla Dodds, for Krissy King.

Best Overall Modeling Team: Deborah Beaumont Designs.

Only one podium handle turns up in the story text above: @kyla.doddsss, whose “Tonight’s show” frame was tagged @krissykingthelabel and @thebureaufashionweek. That tag is part of how her house went on our record as Krissy King.

For Ava, for Emily and for the Deborah Beaumont team, our notes hold no story or caption text of their own from this weekend. That isn’t the same as saying they posted nothing. It means we won’t quote what we haven’t read. Their case was made on the runway, and you can see it in Bureau LAFW: Day One to Day Two.

What the stories told us

  1. Swim borrowed the Angel playbook on the Angels’ own weekend. Feather wings at the Finale, “Angles Have Landed,” “meets @victoriassecret,” an “angel moment” caption and an “Angel Energy Girls” form, all the night before the Victoria’s Secret show streams from Los Angeles. An independent swim label told the same story at its own scale. Smart timing. Just don’t mistake a tag for a partnership.
  2. The models’ own posts were the real press release. The producer’s feed posts we checked named no one by handle. The thank-yous, the credential card and the “Tonight’s show” tag did the crediting, and the label reshared them as they came in. If you want to know who was in the room, read the reshares. Then check them.
  3. A reshare isn’t a roster. A handle on a story tells you who posted the frame, not who walked, for whom, or when. Some frames in this reel are plainly not from this weekend (“Throwback to Miami”), one may be recycled, and the late-night ones can’t be timed to the minute. That’s why this piece says “unconfirmed” as often as it does.
  4. The runway doubles as a casting funnel. Krissy King’s link-in-bio holds three links: an “NYFW Casting!” Google Form, a Linktree, and the “Angel Energy Girls Application” form. Every pair of wings on Saturday was also an ad for the next casting call. We didn’t open or fill in the forms, so what they ask for is unconfirmed.
  5. Stories are an archive with a 24-hour fuse. When we looked, the label had no October post in the first dozen tiles of its grid and no LAFW highlight. From the label’s side, the whole LA weekend lived in a reel that expires a day after each frame goes up. If nobody writes it down, it’s gone by Monday. So we wrote it down.
  6. It’s a tour, and the label said so. On Sep 24, after the Bureau’s New York show, the label’s own caption read “We’re still not over NYFW! Next Stop: PARIS and then LA!” LA was a stop on a circuit, announced weeks out. Independent labels are building a season the way the big houses do: city by city, in public.

How we did this: we read @krissykingthelabel’s public profile, link-in-bio and live story reel early on Sun Oct 18, between about 2:30 and 2:50 AM PT, and the Bureau’s story reposts on Saturday afternoon. Read-only: no likes, follows, comments, replies or DMs. Quotes are copied as they appeared on screen, spelling included; emoji are left out. Frame times come from Instagram’s own age stamps and are approximate. The Victoria’s Secret show date is from the brand’s own announcement.

Disclosure: Krissy King is also a Bureau co-founder and producer. One Bureau story reshare was Nightlife Report’s own post. The Venus Games and Runway Points are Nightlife Report editorial picks by head judge Anthony Perlas, not official Bureau awards; the Bureau announced no winners. We judge the walk and the presentation only, never faces or bodies.
