Part of today’s What You Missed: Monday, Nov 2.

The hook
“It was never about reproducing couture literally.” That is Zuhair Murad, speaking to Glossy about his first collaboration with a mass-market fashion brand. The 20-piece capsule with Aldo launched globally on Nov. 2, and it is built for exactly the season we are walking into: holiday parties, New Year’s Eve and every invitation that says “festive.”
What happened
- The collection. Shoes, bags, jewelry and eyewear built around a platform sandal and a pointed-toe slingback in glitter and metallic gold, per WWD and Footwear News. Glossy adds sculptural heels and celestial details.
- The prices. WWD reports shoes at 200 to 300 dollars and bags at 140 to 180 dollars. Glossy puts the full capsule at 40 to 300 dollars.
- The rollout. Glossy reports a preview online and in stores on Oct. 28, a global launch on Nov. 2 and distribution in about 25 markets, including the U.S., the U.K., Canada and several Middle Eastern countries. Partners include Zalando, Answear and Gedeon.
- Limited by design. Aldo produced about 60 percent fewer units than for past collaborations, depending on region, with just six North American stores carrying it, per Glossy. Most sales are expected online.
- The firsts. Glossy calls it Aldo’s first partnership with a couture house and Murad’s first with a mass-market brand. It took about two and a half years to develop.
Why people care
Murad is red carpet royalty. Glossy notes his couture has been worn by Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Zendaya, and the house has 10.5 million Instagram followers it plans to use for the launch, along with what Glossy describes as hundreds of creators worldwide. That makes this a social-first drop, and it is the kind of piece people buy to be photographed in.
The design talk is also refreshingly honest. Aldo’s Amanda Amar told Glossy the original sketches had particularly steep heel pitches, so the engineers reworked platform heights, strap placement and construction to keep the look while making the shoes wearable. In WWD, Murad framed the goal this way: “I wanted to mix the spirit of couture with versatility, and wearability.”
And there is a business story under the sparkle. Per Glossy, Aldo says dress shoes made up 55 percent of its 2025 sales while representing 45 percent of its assortment, and its U.S. comparable handbag sales are up 20 percent year over year. The Elie Saab x H&M collaboration earlier this fall shows couture houses are testing this lane too.
What it means for you
- Shop online first. With six North American stores and reduced quantities, the website is your best shot. Check the Aldo collection page for live stock in your size.
- Pick the hero. If you buy one thing, make it the shoe. A metallic platform or slingback carries an entire black dress through December.
- Test the walk. Aldo says the heels were reengineered for wear. Still, walk a full lap at home before your first party. Valet lines and rooftop stairs are real.
- Style it down. A glitter heel with straight denim and a crisp white shirt reads more expensive than a full sequin look.
Our take (opinion)
This is a smart collaboration because both sides got something they could not buy alone. Murad gets a younger, wider customer. Aldo gets a reason for shoppers to say, as Amar put it to Glossy, “I didn’t know Aldo could do that.” The limited run is the right call. Scarcity protects the couture name, and the pieces that sell out first will tell both brands whether a second chapter is worth it. If you see the gold slingback in your size, we would not wait.
