He started as a marketer, not a club owner. David Grutman’s career began with Miami Marketing Group. In 2008 he opened LIV inside the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. It is still the room every Miami night is measured against.
The empire, in order
- 2008: LIV opens at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
- 2012: Story opens in South Beach. It later closed.
- 2015: Komodo opens in Brickell.
- 2018: Groot Hospitality is formed to hold the venues.
- 2019: Live Nation buys a majority stake.
- December 2023: LIV Las Vegas opens at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, fifty thousand square feet, designed by Rockwell Group, with John Summit as first resident.
Today Groot lists LIV Miami, LIV Las Vegas, LIV Beach, Komodo, Papi Steak, Gekkō with Bad Bunny, and Casadonna with Tao Group.
What a LIV table costs
A LIV promoter told Front Office Sports a table for eight carried a one-thousand-dollar minimum on an off night, and a table for twelve about four thousand. Prime stage tables run six thousand and up; big weekends can double that.
The door
Collared shirts and proper shoes for men, dressy for women. No sneakers, no athletic wear. Doors open around eleven thirty.
