This Week · LA + NYC

Halloween week is a fashion week of its own. Here is where the dressed-up crowd is going, and what the listings say to wear.

Halloween week is a fashion week of its own on both coasts. Every event below is drawn from its public listing or press coverage; dress codes are quoted from the organizers.

Los Angeles

Ferragamo’s homecoming. Vogue covered the dinner for Ferragamo’s new Beverly Hills flagship, hosted by Leonardo Ferragamo and creative director Maximilian Davis. “Los Angeles is a part of Ferragamo’s story,” Davis told Vogue.

Runway Wars, Downtown (Sun, Oct 25). Fashion After Dark Collective and Tierra Unida Compound billed 10 to 15 designers in a live showdown with industry judges, plus lowriders and classic cars. Dress code: “Come dressed to be seen.”

BLAQ African Fashion Show, North Hollywood (Mon, Oct 26). Blaq Label’s runway of African-inspired design at BlaqHaus NoHo. The ask: “Come Dressed. Bring Energy.”

The Gilded Age at Greystone Mansion. hoopLA lists Fleurs de Villes’ floral mannequins inspired by HBO’s The Gilded Age in Beverly Hills, with an after-hours evening on Oct 30.

Downtown sample sales (Fri, Oct 30) and the Black Beauty Block Party (Sun, Nov 1), per the LA Fashion District calendar and Sequin Soirée.

New York

Rooftop Masquerade, Lower East Side (Sun, Oct 25). PostUp NYC’s golden-hour runway at 3 Freeman Alley with house DJs. Dress code: “Chic, fashion forward, dress to impress, masquerade-style masks highly encouraged.”

Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse trunk show (Mon, Oct 26). Janie and Jack, Itihāas Company, Ossa, Serves, Sister Katie and SWD Salon, each placed in a designed room.

Halloween: The Fashion Experience, Midtown (Sat, Oct 31). Propel Earth’s dinner-and-runway night with Afro House and Brazilian Carnival-inspired looks; registration has closed.

Psycho at 1227 (Sat, Oct 31). Virgin Hotels New York’s American Psycho-themed night, where “fashion, horror, and nightlife collide.”

What to wear, according to the week's data

Dark romance that isn’t costume: velvet, lace and deep berry, grounded with denim or flats (Style Pulse). Faux fur and shearling shrank to trims, so a collar or cuff does the work of a whole coat. For men, waxed cotton is back as a city jacket, and Elie Saab’s tuxedo tailoring gives the masquerade crowd an answer to “dress to impress.” A mask plus tonal chocolate brown reads Halloween without a costume.

A note on method: Instagram location pages were not crawled for this edition; once we’ve confirmed who took each public post we’ll add a spotted-on-the-street gallery, with credit and permission.
