Yohji Yamamoto Gets His Flowers: Outstanding Achievement at the Fashion Awards 2026

The British Fashion Council will give Yohji Yamamoto the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Fashion Awards 2026 on November 30 at London’s Royal Albert Hall (MILLE World). He founded his label in Tokyo in 1972 and has spent more than five decades questioning how clothes should fit the body.

Why it matters

Yamamoto made black, asymmetry and oversized tailoring a language. His Y-3 line with adidas, launched in 2003, put runway ideas on sneakers long before “luxury streetwear” was a category. He joins past honorees including Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford. Jimmy Choo’s Sandra Choi will also receive a Special Recognition Award that night.

• Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster, round four. The collaboration has 43 sunglasses and 25 optical frames built around deconstruction. Margiela’s four white stitches appear to float at the temples. Alex Prager directed the campaign film, and pop-ups open in eight cities including Paris, Seoul and Tokyo (10 Magazine).
• Louis Vuitton “Whatever the Weather.” Pharrell Williams’ Spring-Summer 2027 men’s pre-collection features nylon puffers with Monogram leather shoulders and rain-washed Speedy and Keepall bags. It landed in stores October 29 (MILLE World).
• The couture boom. Hermès debuts couture in January 2027, and Atelier Versace returns the same month (Vogue).
