Part of today’s What You Missed: Wednesday, Oct 28.

The hook
“The South got something to say.” Nike opens its announcement with André 3000’s famous 1995 line, and then backs it up with a full collection. Nike, the University of Georgia and OutKast, with the label Class Trip, have built “OutKast U,” a limited apparel and on-field collection for the first Georgia vs Florida football game ever played in Atlanta. It launched Oct. 27, the full range drops Oct. 28, and a game-day pop-up follows Oct. 31.
What happened
- The occasion. Georgia and Florida meet in Atlanta on Oct. 31 for the first time in the rivalry’s history; the game has been played in Jacksonville since 1933, according to Nike’s announcement dated Oct. 26.
- The design idea. Nike and Class Trip built the collection from the artists’ own wardrobes, pulling references from André 3000’s and Big Boi’s personal style. The Georgia G now wears OutKast’s crown, a script reads “University of Georgia, Outkast 1996,” and the number 96 sits on every jersey. Nike notes 1996 was the year OutKast released ATLiens.
- The origin story. “This started over lunch with André,” Class Trip founder Brian Francis said in Nike’s release. “They put Atlanta on the map. This is our thank you.”
- The coverage. Hypebeast ran it Oct. 27 as “Nike Enrolls the Georgia Bulldogs at ‘OutKast U’,” and Atlanta News First covered it locally on Oct. 26.
What is in the collection (per Nike)
- The hero piece: a red wool varsity jacket with black leather sleeves, chenille patches and chain-stitch embroidery, with “Georgia” and “Outkast” across the back.
- Jerseys: a cropped mesh practice cut and a heavyweight cotton retro, with “96” and “Outkast” across the shoulders.
- Also: rugby shirts, a satin bomber, a heavyweight fleece hoodie, Max90 graphic T-shirts, pieces inspired by senior cords with lines like “So Fresh, So Clean,” cord caps, a snapback and bucket hats.
- On the field: eye-shield decals, skullcaps, wristbands, mouthguards and gloves made for Georgia’s players and staff for the game.
How to get it
Per Nike, the collection launched Oct. 27 on SNKRS, at Class Trip and at select Nike retail partners in Atlanta. The full collection follows Oct. 28 on nike.com and at select retail locations, with a game-day pop-up at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Oct. 31. Nike’s release does not list prices, so check the SNKRS app before you queue.
Why people care
This is the merch formula of the fall in one drop: college colors, hip-hop heritage, and a real cultural moment instead of a random logo mash-up. Nike says the campaign was shot in Athens with six Nike NIL athletes restaging familiar frames from OutKast’s photo history, which gives fans a reason to share the images, not just the product.
What it means for you
- In LA, think online first. The first wave launched through SNKRS and Atlanta stores. Set your app notifications rather than counting on Fairfax Avenue shelves.
- The varsity jacket is the piece. It is the most detailed item in Nike’s description and the one most likely to hold value.
- Style it like the source. Class Trip creative director Jon Tietz pointed to the Roses video: “two crews, two completely different styles, same school.” Mix the rugby shirt with tailoring, or the jersey with wide denim.
Our take (opinion)
Plenty of brands borrow music history. This one earns it, because the story (first Georgia vs Florida game in Atlanta, the city that made OutKast) is real and specific. The risk is scarcity: a collection this tied to one game will be hard to find by Saturday.
